Paragraphs On Conceptual Art By Sol LeWitt
2009
Each of the 26 letters and 10 punctuation contained within Sol LeWitt’s “Paragraphs On Conceptual Art” were assigned a different hue colored pencil. The colors of the pencils were assigned in relation to their frequency of appearance within the text and their aesthetic beauty and visual impact. A 26‘x10’ wall was divided into 5 horizontal rows 12” high with 2” separating each row. At the far left side of the top row I began drawing vertical lines 1/8” wide with the colored pencils following LeWitt’s text. The letters, punctuations and spaces were transcribed, letter by letter onto the wall using the pencils. The piece consists of 10,867 individual vertical lines.
